Did you know that you can use MUVO Flaming Copper Shampoo as a ‘filler’ in salon to repigment hair? We know that the job of having to return a blonde back to their original darker hair can be time consuming and difficult…..And, when that return to dark occurs, you’ll be required to repigment your client’s hair. The most challenging component of this scenario is educating your client who believes that all they need is for you to colour their lightened blonde hair with a darker shade! Keep reading to experience our guide to a successful “repigmenting” or “filling” process.
Repigmenting, sometimes also called a “tintback,” is the process of filling the hair with a tint of the undertone that was removed in the process of lightening your client’s hair in the first place. That is, when lightening hair, warm undertones such as gold, copper or red are exposed and removed. If your client is ready to go darker again, you will need to create those lost undertones back into their hair otherwise their colour can become drab, muddy, greyish and sometimes even greenish!
We recommend MUVO Flaming Copper Shampoo, either applied on dry hair or towel dried hair to the lost undertones to “fill” your client’s hair before applying the darker permanent or semi permanent shade. MUVO Flaming Copper Shampoo will most likely leave your client’s hair quite vibrant, but that is the goal. The permanent or semi permanent color will balance the vibrancy to get to your client’s target shade. Here are 2 examples of an in-salon filling experience:
Our second sample client has a natural base 5-6 with uneven levels of 8-10 golden blonde. In order to ‘fill’ the colourist has applied MUVO Flaming Copper Shampoo to the blonde areas to avoid her natural base as this does not require filling. The aim is a burgundy brown base around a level 3-4.
Here we show that a few sections have been foiled or wrapped (the client would like some pink highlights as you will see in the next image). MUVO Flaming Copper Shampoo has been applied to the client’s towel dried hair with the foiled sections eliminated from the filling process. In this example MUVO Flaming Copper was washed out after 20 minutes. Then the semi-permanent colour was applied.
And the outcome – a base 3-4 burgundy shade has been achieved and the foiled pieces have been highlighted with MUVO Ultra Rose Shampoo. As you can see there are no traces of Flaming Copper, just the rich burgundy at the client’s request.
Not every client wants warm tones in their hair, instead preferring cool, ashy tones. However, you do need some degree of warmth when going from lightened hair to a darker shade to prevent the color from looking grey and drab. In order to prevent strong, warm undertones, you could dilute MUVO Flaming Copper Shampoo with equal parts MUVO Totally Naked Shampoo to fill/repigment the hair in this case. Consult with your client so that you achieve the most accurate filling process to achieve their desired ‘back to dark’ result.
Remember, when going drastically darker from previously lightened hair, your client may experience their hair colour fading more quickly. You may need to use the permanent or semi colour several times before you see any longevity with the colour.
